Artificial Organic
Stand in it, and the room is the work

The work
A graduation installation built as a single environment. Black branching forms span the ceiling, a cast chair sits in an earth floor, pools of dark liquid are sunk into the ground, and buried lights burn out to white against curtain walls.
Notes
It began as objects and stopped being objects. Once the branches went up and the floor went down there was no way to show a single piece on its own, because the room had become the thing. Visitors walked in rather than past.
The forms are built and cast by hand, and none of them is straightened. Where a branch runs wrong it runs wrong. The floor is real earth, and the lights are buried in it, so the light comes up out of the ground rather than down onto it. Standing inside, the brightest thing in the room is under your feet.
It was documented on analog black and white and left uncorrected. The grain is the film's and the blown highlights are the buried lights doing what they did on the night. Cleaning that up would make it a render.
Cast and built forms, earth floor, curtain walls, buried lighting. Documented on 35mm black and white.
